BIOGRAPHY

Carl Cacho has firmly established himself as one of the most talented and respected singer/songwriters in New England. 2000 Boston Music Award Nominee for Best New Singer/Songwriter, Winner of the 1996 Rose Garden Coffeehouse Singer/Songwriter competition and semi-finalist in the 1992 Telluride Troubadour contest, his songs and disarming performing style have made him a favorite at venues across the Northeast. Considered an "important new voice," he was invited to participate in the Fifth Annual Martha’s Vineyard Singer/Songwriter Retreat, started by Christine Lavin.

Written with stunning detail and clarity, Cacho’s songs draw the listener into focused snapshots of events and people that usually pass unnoticed. Drawing from a wide range of influences, his heroes include Townes Van Zandt, Bob Dylan, Lightning Hopkins, Joni Mitchell and Ellis Paul. His songs have been covered by many of his peers, including Jack Hardy, Kevin So and Jimmy LaFave.

Carl recently released his debut CD, "Blue Around The Edges," which showcases his lyrical, narrative songs in a variety of musical settings, from Mississippi John Hurt style blues to folk, country and straight-ahead rock and roll. Many of the songs reflect Cacho’s experience as a social worker, such as "Tumbleweed’s At The Fair," written about two teenagers Carl met while working in a runaway shelter in Colorado. Featuring harmony vocals by Ellis Paul and percussion by Catie Curtis, it captures the essence of childhood innocence turning into the hardened cynicism so many develop in order to deal with difficult circumstance:

"They were down for the count late last year
Gone on cheap love and beer
Halfway out of their minds
With cigarettes rolled up their sleeves
They’re blowing smoke rings through dreams
They share with the autumn sky
And they hide their hope like an ugly scar
Like it’s stolen gold in their pockets
They ride this world like it’s a beat up car
Some reckless fool has forgotten"

"Blue Around The Edges" has received extensive airplay on radio stations across the country, and has received glowing reviews in The Boston Globe, Northeast Performer, Sound Check, as well as numerous other publications. It won’t be long before the rest of the country is echoing award winning musician Geoff Bartley’s praise "Carl you’ve got the JuJu!"
